Xilica and Sennheiser launched a new IT-centric audio bundle that allows vendors to span the full breadth of collaboration space with the introduction of the Xilica x Sennheiser Small Room Kit. Following from the popular Xilica x Sennheiser Medium Room Kit and Large Room Kit, both featuring Xilica audio systems with a Sennheiser TeamConnect Ceiling 2 beamforming microphone array, the latest addition includes the newly released Sennheiser TeamConnect Ceiling Medium (TCCM).

The new Small Room Kit provides the pre-designed room audio system for smaller spaces: meeting rooms, classrooms and collaboration spaces that don’t require the sizeable coverage of a TeamConnect Ceiling 2, but still demand flexibility and freedom when presenting, reconfiguring room layout or involving multiple speakers simultaneously.

The IT-centric solution, based entirely around Category 5 cable and Power-over-Ethernet, is the new entry-level bundle in Xilica & Sennheiser’s joint SKUs, which continue to include the Medium and Large Room Kits.

Comprising a Sennheiser TeamConnect Ceiling Medium, a Xilica Solaro QR1-UC PoE-powered digital signal processor, two Xilica Sonia C5 Category-cable based in-ceiling speakers, and a Xilica Sonia Amp PoE++ amplifier with integrated network switch, the Small Room Kit requires only a single network cable to the ceiling for the full in-room audio system.

Related: Xilica Enhances Auto-Tracking Camera Module for Sennheiser TeamConnect Ceiling 2

Using existing network infrastructure, the Xilica Sonia Amp supplies power to the TCCM and relays audio over the Dante protocol back to the system’s Xilica QR1-UC DSP. Deploying the Xilica x Sennheiser Small Room Kit eliminates the need for traditional copper cable, messy termination, time-consuming system design and programming, and validation testing — which is completed by Xilica and Sennheiser using their in-house laboratories to ensure compatibility with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Webex by Cisco.

The full breadth of the Room Kit range allows enterprises, higher-educational institutions and governments to standardize on single product assortment for spaces of all sizes and scale up or down to meet the needs of specific rooms.

Streamlining training, deployment, and ongoing management, the Room Kits include voice-based camera tracking via Xilica technology with any common Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera, integrated mute and status sync for popular UC platforms, and pre-built modules to ensure easy setup while leveraging Xilica HearClear acoustic echo cancellation technology.

Additionally, Xilica has announced that Sennheiser SpeechLine wireless digital microphone products are now natively supported in its systems — offering additional control options, assurance, and functionality for end-users and system integrators leveraging both product lines.

Xilica x Sennheiser Room Kits are available at select distribution partners worldwide.

Editor’s note: There is a lot going on in the world of IT, from emerging technologies to digital transformation and new cybersecurity threats. However, we can’t possibly cover it all, so we’ll bring you This Week in IT, a curated summary of IT and enterprise technology news stories each week.

Microsoft investigating threat actor consent phishing campaign

Microsoft says it is investigating a consent phishing campaign involving threat actors fraudulently impersonating legitimate companies when enrolling in the Microsoft Cloud Partner Program.

According to a Microsoft Security Response Center blog post, the actor used fraudulent partner accounts to add a verified publisher to OAuth app registrations they created in Azure Active Directory (Azure AD). The applications created by the threat actors were then used in a consent phishing campaign that tricked users into granting permissions to the fraudulent apps.

Victims were primarily based in the U.K. and Ireland. Microsoft says all fraudulent applications have been disabled and impacted customers have been notified.

Read Microsoft’s blog for more information. Cybersecurity firm Proofpoint, which says it notified Microsoft about the attacks, also has a blog about the incident.

Google FI warns customers of data breach

Google FI, Google’s U.S.-based telecommunications and mobile internet service, told customers this week that personal data was exposed by a data breach at one of its primary network providers, and some customers have been impacted by SIM swapping attacks, according to reports.

Bleeping Computer reports that Google sent notices of a data breach to Google Fi customers, informing them that the incident exposed their phone numbers, SIM card serial numbers, account status, account activation date and mobile service plan details. However, other sensitive information such as full names, email addresses, payment information, SSNs, tax and government IDs, passwords or SMS and call content was not accessed.

Read Bleeping Computer’s story for more information.

New Gmail user interface

Google is rolling out a new user interface and customizable integrated view for Gmail that brings apps like Gmail, Chat and Meet in one unified location. The new Gmail look will become the standard experience, with no option to revert to the original user interface, the company says.

The rollout began last week and is expected to be completed Feb. 3.

Belgium-based Barco, prominent in professional visualization technology, launched TruePix, a new LED videowall platform that ensures an outstanding and long-lasting viewing experience, powered by innovative smart engineering. According to the company, it is designed completely from the ground up to create a purpose-built videowall for a variety of enterprise applications. It perfects all aspects of the LED experience right from installation, throughout its long lifetime, to after sales support and maintenance. TruePix thus ensures a seamless experience in various applications. These include control rooms, television studios, lobbies, boardrooms, auditoriums and other corporate applications.

Barco’s TruePix is now available to view at booth 3D400 in Hall 3 at ISE 2022 from May 10-13 in Barcelona.

Key Product Highlights

  • Truly seamless display
  • Smart engineering for an easy, perfectly aligned installation
  • Unmatched viewing experience thanks to the next gen Infinipix processor
  • Purpose-built robustness and ergonomics for 24/7 smooth and efficient operations
  • Superb color accuracy, under all lighting conditions
  • Reduced ecological footprint
  • 10 years of dedicated service and support

With TruePix, Barco combines the latest technological evolutions, a vast amount of expertise, and innovative, smart engineering. The result is a unique mounting technology, impressive image quality and ensuing longevity. These high-resolution 16:9 tiles are available in multiple options, with pixel pitches ranging from 0.9 to 1.9 mm.

Reliable and Clarity

TruePix is the first product to incorporate Barco’s Infinipix Gen2 image processing system. It ensures optimal viewing experience for all types of content. No visual distortions, low latency, perfect sync and no tearing are the hallmarks of this system, says Barco. Infinipix Gen2 also guarantees dimming without any loss in color accuracy. Thus, it drastically expands the effectiveness of the installation. What’s more, Barco’s proprietary smart calibration method for wide color gamut support and full color balancing control creates rich and true-to-life images. TruePix also shows that visual excellence does not equal high energy consumption. Its EcoPower mode ensures reduced energy consumption which then limits the ecological footprint.

SteadyView, a unique Barco feature, improves viewing ergonomics and reduces eye fatigue. This is especially important in control room environments where the staff intensely use the wall for multiple hours on end. Thus, TruePix is a purpose-built LED wall for critical and high-intensity applications like control rooms and command centers.

Smart Engineering, Seamless Outcomes

Barco highlights possible imperfections in flatness of the walls and level of the floors which often cause mechanical stress in the tiles’ frames. This then leads to seams, damage or difficulties during maintenance. However, TruePix’ auto-balancing system counters these imperfections and makes sure the LED wall is 100% level and frictionless.

Furthermore, the installation time is also cut because the tiles all slide perfectly into place without the need for manual adjustments. The guided module insertion ensures a fully contactless and risk-free installation, with no risk of tile damage.

Full Service Support

For Barco, ensuring longevity, reliability and perfect display uniformity is of major importance. The company says it takes every measure to deliver the promised experiences to customers. Availability of batch compatible modules throughout the life of the wall is therefore a key part of Barco’s service offerings. If a module needs to be replaced, Barco guarantees that batch-compatible spare tiles (along with full service support) are available for up to 10 years. This brings peace of mind and a reduced cost of ownership over the full lifetime of the product.

The Video wall Management Suite, Barco’s cloud-based platform for advanced video wall management, allows users to monitor, diagnose and/or control the TruePix installation remotely. This maximizes uptime and reduces the need and length of service interventions. TruePix is also the first LED product on the market to leverage 5Gb bandwidth, per a statement. This makes the system up to five times more efficient with fewer cable runs and points of failure — as more LED modules can be connected in a single link. Additionally, 4-way inter-tile communication and signal loop redundancy are embedded to further guarantee an uninterrupted data flow. Thus, TruePix is a reliable LED solution in the market, says Barco.

Result of 25 Years of Innovation

“We are proud to introduce the impressive TruePix platform, which will spearhead our LED portfolio,” says Bruno Devos, R&D director at Barco. “It was our goal to create a platform that not only guarantees great visual experiences, but also perfectly answers the needs of our customers in several key markets. TruePix is therefore the result of Barco’s 25 years of experience in innovating LED visualization. Again, we have raised the bar to deliver bright outcomes to our customers.”

You’ll have to wait a little bit longer for Integrated Systems Europe to make its Barcelona, Spain, debut. ISE 2021, slated for Feb. 2-5 at the Fira de Barcelona, has been postponed amidst a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic sweeping across Europe.

ISE, the world’s largest pro AV show, has been postponed to June 2021, according to an announcement this morning by show officials. ISE will also launch RISE Digital, a digital program of content and networking events that will “run throughout the year and support the live show,” according to today’s announcement.

The change means the two largest shows in pro AV—ISE 2021 and InfoComm 2021—are now scheduled within weeks of each other, but the decision to delay ISE’s debut in Barcelona comes with the full support of AVIXA CEO David Labuskes, according to today’s announcement.

The ISE 2021 postponement comes less than a week after Integrated Systems Europe managing director Mike Blackman said he was concerned about the increase in COVID-19 cases across Europe in the last week or so, while noting exhibitors had expressed a desire to keep the show on as scheduled.

A risk assessment by ISE staffers and their health consultants in July using World Health Organization protocols show the COVID-19 risk as “low,” but a recent increase in COVID-19 cases across Europe clearly changed the plans for ISE 2021.

“Obviously, we are concerned [about the second wave of the coronavirus outbreak across Europe] and observing the situation very carefully,” Blackman wrote in an email to Commercial Integrator last week.

Inside ISE 2021 Postponement

ISE organizers are adding a virtual element to the 2021 show, but Blackman has said for months he is confident the event can move forward with an in-person component, noting show staffers have worked closely with Fira officials and local health agencies to ensure the venue will be safe for attendees.

“ISE 2021 will be a hybrid event and we are currently developing our plans for the digital part of the event,” Blackman said in an email to CI in early July.

Related: My TechDecisions Podcast Episode 74: Recapping ISE 2020 and Why End Users Should Attend

Elements of the ISE 2021 digital platform “will certainly give not only attendees but also exhibitors the opportunity to virtually interact with each other as well as with the live and virtual content being presented,” he said at the time.

The 2020 edition of ISE, the last one in Amsterdam, attracted about 52,000 people to the RAI, well below the 2019 attendance record of 82,000 people. Increasing concerns about the coronavirus and a massive snowstorm sweeping across Europe kept the attendance lower than it had been in years.

Blackman had said the in-person component of ISE 2021 would move forward even if attendees from North America couldn’t be in Barcelona. They make up about 5 percent of the overall annual ISE attendance, although that number has been increasing in recent years.

The post AVI-SPL Symphony as a Service Makes Monitoring Collaboration Spaces Easy appeared first on My TechDecisions.

Tech managers and IT directors should know AVI-SPL as North America’s largest AV integration firm and as providers of AVI-SPL Symphony platform for monitoring, managing, running diagnostics on AV systems (even launching video calls). The next step for Symphony, the Tampa-based company announces, is Symphony as a Service (SYaas), targeting collaboration spaces.

AVI-SPL says Symphony as a Service (SYaaS), which is on display at ISE 2019 (Integrated Systems Europe) at AVI-SPL’s stand No. #11-C155, provides an alternative consumption model for organizations to conduct proactive monitoring and management of their collaboration estate via Symphony. According to a company press release, the new as-a-service solution benefits tech managers it a couple of clear ways:

  • It enables integrated collaboration workflows, providing a single pane view into the supporting technology estate.
  • It delivers real-time, actionable business intelligence around network performance, room utilization, device functionality, and usage trends.

Related: Tips for Purchasing Collaboration Solutions

Delivering Symphony in an “as-a-service” model is significant, says AVI-SPL senior VP of service operations Tim Riek, who gave sister brand Commercial Integrator an overview of Symphony as a Service during ISE 2019 (watch the video above). “We’re pulling the engine that has been under the hood and powering our managed services,” he says. It’s now “enabling our customer to deliver an optimized IT environment leveraging the Symphony platform.”

The goal of AVI-SPL’s Symphony is to collect and streamline valuable information that can help organizations make better business decisions, Riek explains. “Symphony helps to bring together disparate applacitions and creat an integrated collaboration workflow. It creates a single-pane view into total enterprise technologies and it provides real-time access to actionable business intelligence to help our users make more informed decisions with respect to their technology purchases.”

As many organizations look to evolve their spaces and adapt to employees changing workflows, they need data to support their decisions, adds AVI-SPL VP of sales and marketing, EMEA, William Hegan, also to CI during ISE 2019. “Symphony allows us not only to manage the devices but also to provide utilization analytics off the backend that allows customers to make informed real estate choices around number of rooms.”

AVI-SPL Launches ymphony as a Service (SYaaS) at ISE 2019

“Accountability for the meeting room has historically been compartmentalized between video conferencing and audiovisual management applications,” says Tim Riek, senior vice president of services, AVI-SPL.

“With Symphony now unbundled from the company’s managed services program and available on a subscription basis, AVI-SPL is unlocking the potential for all organizations to integrate a disparate application topology, have one lens into all deployed collaboration technologies, and enhance the return on its technology investment.”

More from AVI-SPL’s SYaaS press release:

Today AVI-SPL Symphony is powering global organizations in the enterprise, healthcare, financial services, as well as higher education market. RMIT, a university of technology and design with campuses in Australia, Southeast Asia, and Spain, is among those who entrust AVI-SPL’s Symphony as a Service to maintain the health of its AV and UC systems and ensure a positive classroom experience.

“Since the implementation of Symphony, RMIT’s audiovisual services, have been able to become more efficient and increase the student and staff experience,” says  Tim Sullivan, senior manager of operations, learning, teaching, and research at RMIT, in the press release.

“[Symphony] is something that I wish we had a number of years ago.”

ISE (Integrated Systems Europe) is moving from Amsterdam to Barcelona, Spain in 2021 to accommodate the annual attendance records that have seen the world’s largest pro AV trade show outgrow the RAI Amsterdam, no matter how many temporary halls the building tacked on every year.

ISE managing director Mike Blackman says he expects ISE 2019 and 2020 to continue attracting more people than ever for both shows before the permanent move to a much larger home for ISE 2021.

Will we see the 100,000 barrier broken after almost 81,000 attendees this year?

Blackman will be joined next week in Spain at the Gran Via, part of the Fira de Barcelona exhibition complex, by AVIXA CEO David Labuskes and CEDIA global president and CEO Tabatha O’Connor for a press conference that fleshes out more details of ISE’s relocation.

I’ve consulted my trusty 8-Ball and come up with a few predictions for the future of ISE Barcelona and beyond (I was wishing this move happened in 2020 so I could say I had 2020 vision). If only Integrated Systems Europe had made this announcement during InfoComm in Vegas, I could have placed some bets on it.

‘Switching’ pro AV trade shows is off the table…

Speaking of InfoComm, the “permanent” relocation of ISE dashes my hopes of ever seeing ISE and InfoComm switch places on the calendar.

I’d questioned the wisdom of having ISE in a cold-weather climate in February while InfoComm alternates between Las Vegas and Orlando in June and floated the idea of switching them when this inevitable ISE Barcelona relocation happened.

…But at least it’ll be warmer out

On a related note, the ISE move from Amsterdam to Barcelona should mean more comfortable weather conditions for attendees every February.

I’ll hedge a bit on saying that as a definite because I live in New England, where weather conditions can change from hour to hour. While Westbury National’s Brock McGinnis told me the weather shouldn’t be the focus of business travel, it is certainly part of the experience.

Integrated Systems Europe’s new home in Barcelona, Spain as of 2021.

ISE 2021 will likely have more end users

When ISE 2021 kicks off in Barcelona, I expect you’ll see more end users than ever before among the attendees for that show.

AVIXA, in particular, has focused on increasing the number of end users who attend its trade shows and I’d expect no different with AVIXA as co-owner of Integrated Systems Europe with CEDIA. The prospect of more end users may rub some integrators the wrong way, but it’s coming.

The increased attendance only serves to feed the ISE Barcelona beast because, as the show gets larger, more people will want to see why more people are going.

That will likely mean even more media coverage for ISE Barcelona—and you thought Mike Blackman had a lot of demands on his time today!

No more squeezing through crowds of geeks

Even though ISE 2021 and beyond will likely continue to shatter attendance records, there should be a lot more room to roam for attendees since the Gran Via is so much larger than the RAI even with all of its temporary halls added on.

That should mean fewer bumping into others as you rush from appointment to appointment, although it could also mean more miles on your shoes.

More than just the show floor

I also expect to see an expansion of the TIDE Conference concept or a similar type of offering added to the ISE 2021 schedule as a way of enticing attendees to come earlier and stay longer.

While TIDE is not directly targeted at AV or systems integration, the program has been popular at ISE and InfoComm and why would organizers want to mess with success?

The massive increase in trade show floor space means organizers will have more room to focus on enhancing the “experience” for attendees.

That may not necessarily be through the use of augmented and virtual reality, but expect to see a larger presence of offerings that aren’t focused on new products but are more about amping up the “wow factor” of going to a trade show.

But there IS one terribly depressing factor here…

ISE Barcelona, Integrated Systems Europe, ISE 2021, stroopwafel

While all of my other predictions are great news for ISE Barcelona, the industry and the attendees, there’s one aspect of ISE 2021 that will be tough to duplicate as it says goodbye to Amsterdam: stroopwafels.

I ate my weight in stroopwafels during Integrated Systems Europe 2017 but burned off most of the calories [or so I’d like to believe] traversing the halls on my way to and from appointments. Does Spain offer a similar portable sweet treat that will help to get me through the day?

ISE 2018 organizers confirmed what managing director Mike Blackman alluded to last week as the show closed, saying the show set another worldwide record for pro AV trade shows with 80,923 attendees, marking a 10.3 percent increase over the previous record set of 73,001 in 2017.

ISE attracted 1,296 companies across 15 halls and more than 57,000 square feet in the RAI Amsterdam, a total that includes 294 first-time exhibitors. Exhibitors have already committed to even more floor space for 2019, meaning that show could surpass this year’s record-breaking total, too.

Among the 80,923 attendees, about 20,000 of them came to the trade show floor on the fourth and final day. More than 30 percent of this year’s attendees were at ISE for the first time.

“It’s been a great show that has delivered on all fronts,” says Integrated Systems Events managing director Mike Blackman. “I’m delighted to report that visitor numbers and exhibitor satisfaction have both been very high. On behalf of ISE, I’d like to thank all our attendees, exhibitors, partners and our co-owners AVIXA and CEDIA. This combination has made ISE what it is today and ensures that we are able to build on our successes year on year.”

ISE 2018 Continues to Grow Content, Too

Many exhibitors once again used ISE 2018 as a launchpad for hundreds of new products, technologies and solutions. The show also provided what organizers called “a unique platform for [AVIXA and CEDIA] to reinforce recent initiatives and to cement their key role as providers of exemplary professional development programs.”

Exhibitors have already committed to even more floor space for 2019, meaning that show could surpass this year’s record-breaking total, too.

We kicked off the week with our TIDE conference and never stopped learning and connecting with the global AV community,” said AVIXA CEO and executive director David Labuskes. “It was very exciting to unveil our new AVIXA brand to the ISE audience and welcome attendees to our vibrant stand.”

New CEDIA CEO Tabitha O’Connor agreed with Labuskes, saying, “CEDIA has enjoyed a phenomenal ISE 2018. We are so proud to be co-owners of this amazing event. Our training program featured more than 50 classes, across business and technical topics and certification examinations that were very well supported by the industry. Meantime, our booth was buzzing with visitors, finding out more about our new strategic plan, meeting friends from the CEDIA community, and making great new connections. Our exciting programme of CEDIA Talks on the booth also proved extremely popular.”

Sony Professional Solutions Europe intends to make its presence known at ISE this year, where it will be showcasing its corporate and education visual solutions inside its brand new dome stand.

In ‘Corporate Solutions,’ visitors will get the opportunity to experience how Sony’s audio visual and collaborative solutions can transform the working environment into a more interactive, creative place to do business, from the smallest breakout rooms to large boardrooms, auditoriums and common areas.

Meanwhile, ‘Education Solutions’ will take visitors through an immersive journey, showing them how creative and interactive learning spaces are opening up new possibilities for education.

Whether talking about classrooms, lecture theatres, common areas or training studios, Sony is working to improve student engagement and productivity, encouraging faster learning and facilitating greater collaboration among groups through its latest advances in information technology.

The dome will use two of Sony’s new VPL-GTZ270 SXRD laser projectors, edge blended to project content onto the interior curved surface of the structure. Another highlight on the Sony stand will be the latest ‘visualisation and simulation’ projector, the VPL-GTZ1, which the manufacturer states is the world’s first ultra-short-throw 4K-laser light source projector.

In addition, visitors will experience Sony’s Real Time HD and 4K Distribution over IP workflow technology to enable businesses and universities to send high quality content to various sources over IP, as well as Sony´s range of AV Media Solutions for the corporate and education markets.
