Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2024 kicked off in Barcelona, Spain, and in conjunction with the large audiovisual tradeshow, winners of the 9th annual Top New Technologies (TNT) Awards at ISE were announced.

The program combines both My TechDecisions’ sister-sites Commercial Integrator and CE Pro to recognize the new and outstanding products and services at ISE.

As ISE is co-owned by CEDIA and AVIXA and brings together leading commercial and residential exhibitors; so too does the TNT Awards at ISE program to honor top innovation in both market segments of the electronics industry.

Dan Ferrisi, group editor of Commercial & Security at Emerald, adds, “There are many reasons that members of the commercial AV community go to ISE, but foremost among them is to check out new products that will help integrators deliver outstanding outcomes to their clients. The technology innovations that the TNT Awards at ISE celebrate lie at the heart of those incredible end-user experiences. Across commercial environments and technology categories, this year’s submissions are just a fantastic representation of the very best that commercial AV has to offer.”

Samsung is releasing a new education-focused interactive display designed to enhance usability and connectivity and enable fast user adoption.

The new Samsung display, the WAC Interactive Display, allows educators to customize home screens, share up to nine screens at once regardless of operating system or device, and use intelligent applications to aid in lessons. In addition, the display features integrated WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The WAC is available in 65-, 75- and 86-inch models and can integrate into any classroom setting, allowing teachers to move around the classroom while students wireless cast to the display and collaborate on work from their own devices, the company says.

The WAC also features a 3-in-1 USB-C port, which enables hassle-free screen connection, touch control and eternal device charging. An HDMI out function also allows educators to share content on a projector or larger screen.

The WAC display allows users to use a pen or their fingers to write and draw, with multi-touch support for up to 20 people. In addition, the display comes with a dual-point pen that can write with two different color son each side.

For management, the WAC series includes a device management solution (DMS) that allows remote device monitoring and control, including powering on and off, volume and brightness adjustment. The DMS also provides emergency response capabilities, including the ability to send alerts to all screens installed across the campus.

The Samsung Whiteboard App can also be installed on the WAC Interactive Display, allowing educators and students to connect their Windows OS devices to write on top of content from their own screens and have annotations appear on the display in real time.

Users can also store, access and share content, documents, screen captures and recordings via the device’s built-in cloud drive integration.

The company officially unveiled the device at education technology conference British Education Training and Technology (Bett).

“Our education technology is designed to equip educators with the tools they need to engage students and enrich any learning environment,” says Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “At Bett, we are excited to showcase our interactive display solutions, demonstrating the level of advanced usability and interactivity required for the tech-enabled future of education.”

Ridgefield Park, N.J.-headquartered Samsung Electronics America, Inc. announced it will provide a first look at its new Samsung Education Community Platform during the 2023 National Future of Education Technology (FETC) Conference and Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) Convention and Exposition.

The free-to-join platform will offer educators an online discussion forum, access to peer and expert coaching and free, self-paced professional development courses. This will enable them to develop new strategies for leveraging technology that can enhance classroom engagement and learning outcomes for all students.

Building New Communities for Educators

“Nearly three years have passed since the COVID-19 pandemic upended classroom teaching and learning, yet educators are still addressing the impacts of prolonged remote learning, from declining test scores to rising rates of stress and burnout. In this challenging climate, educators need more support and professional development than ever before,” says Chris Mertens, VP of U.S. sales, displays, at Samsung Electronics America.

When conceiving the idea of Samsung’s Education Community Platform, Dr. Micah Shippee, director of education technology consulting and solutions at Samsung, brought his 22 years of experience as an educator to the forefront. He and his team thus developed a collaborative, online hub that aims to meet the professional development needs of today’s educators. It does so by offering innovative lesson plans that embrace best-in-class technology.

“At Samsung, we strive to build community through technology. Educators and EdTech enthusiasts will be able to use the Samsung Education Community Platform as their go-to destination to convene and share bold ideas to reimagine the future of learning,” Dr. Shippee adds. “Through our platform, educators can embrace more innovative teaching practices and technology that solve common pain points we’re seeing in classrooms across the country.”

Features of the Platform

According to Samsung, educators who join the platform can access professional development courses led by Samsung Education Coaches. These coaches are experts in curriculum development and instructional design, the company notes. The courses will thus teach participants how to create an interactive, immersive learning environment through engaging-lesson design.

Platform members will gain access to continuing education certificates and monthly professional webinars where they can learn more tips and teaching practices from their Samsung Education Coach.

All monthly webinars will be recorded and made available in Samsung’s rich library of member resources. These resources will also include blog posts, tutorials, lesson plan templates and self-paced online courses. As educators complete their coursework and engage in thoughtful discussion through the online forum, they can collect digital badges that demonstrate their progress and knowledge of EdTech strategies.

Samsung adds it will identify the most active power users to become Ambassadors to create their own content, serve as conference presenters and host Samsung-sponsored webinars to inspire their fellow educators.

Samsung’s Vision for Schools of the Future

Samsung will also showcase its portfolio of Display Solutions and software designed to transform the student experience not only in the classroom but across all corners of campus life. Products on showcase will include:

  • Samsung Interactive Pro: Available in 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch models, the Interactive Pro is a transformative interactive display that helps educators bring vivid learning to life with multimedia content, a real-world writing and drawing experience and wireless screen mirroring from any mobile device.
  • The Wall: Helps transform any school lobby, auditorium or campus space with the Wall All-in-One. Easy to install and available in 110- and 146-inch models, the Wall helps schools make a lasting impact with spectacular, stunning visuals. Samsung notes that private and higher education institutions use the Wall to tell inspiring alumni stories to drive new student applications.
  • Samsung Kiosk Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Edition: Now available in Celeron i3, i5 and i7, as well as Windows Operating Systems (OS)Samsung’s new Kiosk brings the same convenient self-service experience that’s revolutionizing retail and Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) into schools. Per the company, the new product is suitable for transforming food service, front-office sign-ins and campus events. The secure self-service display solution thus includes a touch display with a speaker, printer, scanner and payment solution in a sleek design.

Additional Products

  • QBH Smart Signage: Featuring state-of-the-art UHD picture quality, Samsung’s QBH series of displays provide captivating digital signage that schools can incorporate into high-traffic areas to share important announcements and promote clubs and events. They can also highlight student achievements and raise school spirit among the student body. Per the company, Stevens Institute of Technology has embraced its digital signage in the design of all buildings across its campus.
  • XPR-B Outdoor LED Signage: Samsung’s outdoor LED signage works for reliable outdoor operation and clear visibility in virtually any weather conditions. School leaders can easily and dynamically control on-screen content with time-sensitive information. These include school closings, sports events and parent-teacher conferences.
  • MagicINFO Software: At the heart of the connected school is Samsung’s MagicINFO software which provides full remote-device management and control of the content published to all Samsung displays. In the event of an emergency, schools can thus use MagicINFO to automatically push alerts to all displays with on-screen content to direct students and staff to safety.
  • Gaming Monitors: For schools with eSports programs, Samsung’s gaming monitors offer a next-level gaming experience. They feature an ultrawide DQHD screen for maximum immersion and minimal eye strain. Additionally, its Incredibly low input lag can provide the millisecond advantage for teams to seize victory.

Now through November 29, 2022, public school teachers across the U.S. can apply for this year’s program and submit an application that empowers students to inspire real-world change and address some of society’s most critical issues using problem-based learning.

Under the company’s mission ‘Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People,’ Samsung is empowering the next generation to achieve their full potential and pioneer positive social change. To emphasize the commitment to sustainability, this year’s contest will evaluate projects based on short- and long-term environmental impact and will increase the value of its Sustainability Innovation Award to $50,000.

Videoconferencing solutions such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Google Meet and others became household names over the last two years as organizations adopted – at first – a remote work environment that morphed into hybrid work as employees began coming back to the office.

The collaboration industry and the hardware and software companies that provide the innovative solutions that make remote and hybrid work possible have adapted to make those transitions possible while keeping employees productive – regardless of where they are.

TechDecisions saw this on full display at InfoComm 2022, where some of the biggest names in unified communication and collaboration were showing off their newest solutions.

Zoom, now a world-famous brand that has become synonymous with videoconferencing, was showing off its newest Zoom Rooms features, including its Workspace Reservation tool that enables users to book meeting spaces via an interactive map of the office.

Hybrid work, meeting equity and all-in-one devices

However, the name of the game at InfoComm was hybrid work and meeting equity, and Zoom was also highlighting its intelligence video technologies, such as Smart Gallery, a feature that displays multiple video feeds from a single conference room camera, making it easier for remote meeting attendees to see everyone clearly.

During a demonstration at Zoom’s booth, Smart Gallery displayed three video feeds: the whole room and one each for myself and Mark Barragan, Zoom’s manager of Zoom Rooms for the Americans.

Zoom’s Mark Barragan demonstrates the Smart Gallery feature.

Zoom has struck up countless partnerships with makers of videoconferencing cameras, such as Poly and Logitech, both of which were showing off their devices and highlighting their relationships with the world’s largest software providers and their purpose-built devices for collaboration platforms.

Poly, in addition to their suite of videoconferencing cameras and speakers, recently released the R30 USB video bar for small conferencing spaces that combines enterprise-grade video and audio tools into one small, easy-to-deploy form factor. The device features intelligent audio and video technologies for speaking framing and noise reduction to ensure all in-room participants are heard equally.

Logitech, a longtime videoconferencing hardware market leader, was also showing off its lineup of all-in-one Rally Bar devices, in addition to its full suite of remote and hybrid work essentials, such as headsets, personal conferencing cameras.

Also highlighting its newest all-in-one conferencing device was Bose, which is marketing its decades-long expertise in audio as the reason its VideoBar VB-S stands out from its competition with six beam-steering microphones that filter out unwanted noise and intelligent video-framing capabilities.

For advanced conferencing experiences where hybrid work meeting equity is a must, Crestron — a brand ubiquitous in enterprise conferencing spaces and other audiovisual installations — debuted its new Sightline technology that tracks the active speaker and displaying the view of the entire room while simultaneously framing individual speakers.

While designed with hybrid workers in mind, Sightline also makes it easier for in-room participants to follow along with remote participants by keeping their video in the line of sight.

For enhanced audio intelligibility, Shure displayed its MXA920 Ceiling Array Microphone featuring the company’s Automatic Coverage technology, the microphones pre-configured audio capture with minimal set up required, dramatically reducing the time and cost of deployments. The conference room microphones include the onboard IntelliMix DSP for noise and echo-free performance.

Collaboration displays

Building on the idea of all-in-one videoconferencing bars, display manufacturers such as LG, Avocor, Sharp NEC Display Solutions, Samsung and others were showing off their enterprise-quality displays with built in cameras, speakers and microphones to take the complexity out of conferencing spaces.

Among LG’s new lineup of impressive DVLED displays, the company was showing off its videoconferencing displays, including the One:Quick series, which features the 55-inch One-Quick Works and the 43-inch Flex model. Both are running on Windows 10 and are compatible with a wide variety of videoconferencing apps.

LG One:Quick

Like other hardware providers, collaboration display manufacturer Avocor is also looking to partner with leading conferencing software companies, evidenced by its new Google Meet Series One displays being highlighted on the show floor.

The family of products, developed in partnership with Google Workspace, includes the Series One Board 65 and Series One Desk 27. While optimized for Google’s flagship business collaboration and conferencing platform, both can run any videoconferencing app.

Both include an integrated camera, microphone and speaker, as well as whiteboarding capabilities and intelligent audio and video features designed to reduce unwanted noise and keep on-site and remote participants engaged.

Similarly, Sharp NEC Display solutions showed off its PN-L2B AQUOS BOARD Smart Interactive Display, which it says it designed for hybrid meetings and classrooms. THe displays feature a single USB-C connector for easy startup and built-in wireless connectivity, among other visual features for which this brand is known. Several operating systems are supported, including Windows, Android, iOS, MacOS, iPadOS and Chrome OS.

Samsung, meanwhile, combines its impressive, interactive display technology with tried-and-true conferencing solutions from providers such as Logitech to provide all organizations need to collaborate with remote workers.

For educational settings, Samsung highlighted the Flip Pro, an interactive whiteboard that enables simultaneous collaboration for up to 20 people.

Monitoring and management tools for IT

However, what IT professionals have been calling for as they struggle to monitor and manage their organization’s new conferencing technology and spaces is visibility into those devices, many of which are deployed on the network. To address that need, Logitech highlighted its device management and deployment software, Sync and Logi Tune.

Poly offers similar a similar solution, Poly Lens, to help IT keep tabs on its conferencing devices.

Moving away from brand specific monitoring tools, companies such as software provider Utelogy and global AV integration firm AVI-SPL offer their own monitoring and management tools to help IT ensure conference room systems continue to run without disruption.

Utelogy CEO Kevin Morrison told me that as organizations continue to embrace hybrid work and are building out new conferencing spaces, IT professionals are lacking visibility and management capabilities. The Utelogy platform aims to solve that problem by providing a combination of monitoring, management, control and testing capabilities.

The platform currently supports 2,800 devices, which provides an invaluable tool for IT professionals to manage conferencing systems from the growing ecosystem of hardware vendors.

Meanwhile, AVI-SPL showed off the newest version of its Symphony platform for management and monitoring of multi-vendor collaboration systems and meeting environments.

The new version of the Symphony platform, 6.0, provides a revamped user interface that provides clarify and efficiency for IT administrators and analysts to easily see and understand what is happening across their collaboration technology ecosystem.

What IT can learn from InfoComm

Aside from those vendors, the InfoComm show is becoming heavily tailored to IT professionals, with over 20 sessions this year focused on IT and networked audiovisual systems. That included a panel session focused on the point of view of IT and end users of these products being showcased.

Other sessions explored cybersecurity implications for IoT, AV and workplace technology in enterprise environments, while a three-day course on networked AV systems looked at the impacts of AV systems on networks.

Visit the InfoComm show’s website or AVIXA’s website to learn more about these technologies.

In addition to providing a 70,000-sqaure-foot, double-sided video board at SoFi Stadium, Samsung has now been named the official television, display and mobile partner of the Los Angeles Rams and Hollywood Park.

The technology giant is now the official technology partner of the 298-acre sports and entertainment complex that includes SoFi Stadium, home of both the Rams and Los Angeles Chargers.

“In a time when being at SoFi Stadium in person is unfortunately not possible, there is no better way to experience Rams football than on a Super Big Samsung QLED TV,” said Grace Dolan, vice president of Home Entertainment Integrated Marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “With Samsung QLED becoming the official television of the Los Angeles Rams, it only further emphasizes our ongoing efforts to enhance the fan experience by bringing it home for Rams fans. With striking 4K picture quality, ultra-wide viewing angles and spectacular, vivid colors, Samsung QLED TVs bring all Rams football action right into your living room.”

The partnership between Samsung and the Rams includes:

  • Naming Samsung the official television provider for the Rams Studio with QLED TVs featured in the new in-house studio to enhance fan content and into operations at the team’s training facility
  • Naming Samsung the presenting partner of the Rams video series Coach Speak
  • A Samsung QLED-branded tarp to be featured at all home games at SoFi Stadium
  • Rams marketing and promotions will appear in the team’s home market on Samsung and Rams channels and through Samsung retail partners

The partnership is announced about nearly halfway through the NFL’s regular season and comes as the brand new $5 billion stadium has already been home to several games. The Oculus, the 120-yard double-sided LED screen, has been a sight to behold so far.

According to Samsung, the 2.2 million-pound display features the most LEDs ever used in a sports or entertainment venue as well as the first and only 4K end-to-end video production in a stadium.

The video board has the largest LED content playback system every deployed and has nearly 80 million pixels spaced 9 millimeters from center to center, Samsung says.

Also included in the display is a built-in JBL audio system containing more than 260 of the stadium’s total 4,500 loudspeakers, and it accounts for nearly half of the 1.3 million watts of Crown Audio amplification in the stadium.

Samsung has developed what it calls an industry first 12-layer 3D-TSV chip packaging technology that will allow customers to release newer generations of high-performance products without having to chance system configurations.

The electronic device manufacturer said it solved one of the most challenging packaging technologies for high-performance chips.

Pinpoint accuracy is required to vertically interconnect 12 DRAM chips through a three-dimensional configuration of more than 60,000 through-silicon vias holes, each of which is one-twentieth the thickness of a single strand of human hair.

The thickness of the new chip remains the same as current 8-layer high bandwidth products, which Samsung called a substantial advancement in component design.

The 3D packaging technology also features a shorter data transmission time between chips than currently existing wire bonding technology, resulting in more efficient operations.

With the new 3D-TSV chip, Samsung said it offers the highest DRAM performance for applications that are data-intensive and high speed.

Now, the company is eyeing 24-gigabyte high bandwidth memory, with produces three times the capacity of the standard 8-gigabyte product on the market today.

In a statement, Executive Vice President of Test & System Package Hong-Joo Baek said the role of this new technology will become even more critical as Moore’s law – an observation made by Intel founder Gordon Moore in 1965 that predicted the number of components per integrated circuit would double ever year – reaches its limit.

“Packaging technology that secures all of the intricacies of ultra-performance memory is becoming tremendously important, with the wide variety of new-age applications, such as artificial intelligence and High Power Computing,” he said.

Samsung also said it will be able to meet the rapidly growing market demand for high-capacity high-bandwidth memory solutions with the new chip technology.

The company’s newest innovation is in a market that is prime for growth. According to Zion Market Research, the global 3D TSV market is expected to reach $36.5 billion in 2024.
