Magewell announced the general availability of its Magewell Cloud multi-device management software. The new software is flexibly deployable on an on-premises server or cloud hosting platform. It also provides centralized configuration and control of multiple Magewell streaming and IP conversion solutions. Two additional, premium Magewell Cloud versions also offer streaming management features. These include SRT relay and protocol conversion.

Magewell will showcase the new software in booth C8508 at the 2022 NAB Show, taking place April 24-27 in Las Vegas.

Magewell Cloud Features

Per a statement, Magewell Cloud software makes it easy for integrators, administrators, and IT staff to manage multiple Magewell IP encoders and decoders across multiple sites. This is possible through an intuitive, browser-based interface. Additionally, its rich feature set can also be controlled programmatically via HTTP-based APIs. Thus, it provides systems integrators and third-party developers with advanced deployment flexibility and integration possibilities. Beyond the efficiency and convenience of centralized management, Magewell Cloud is ideal for enabling technical personnel to remotely manage devices on behalf of less-experienced users.

The software supports all current Magewell streaming and IP conversion hardware. These include Ultra Stream live streaming and recording appliances; Ultra Encode universal live media encoders; and Pro Convert encoders and decoders for bridging traditional video signals with IP media networks using NDI technology and other popular protocols. Users can thus remotely configure device parameters, monitor device status, trigger operational functions and perform batch firmware upgrades across multiple units of the same model.

The core Magewell Cloud software is available free of charge for managing up to 20 Magewell hardware devices. The two additional versions of Magewell Cloud —supporting up to 50 or 150 devices, respectively — will be available for purchase as perpetual licenses. They also add SRT relay and protocol conversion functionality for the corresponding number of streams.

Features of SRT Relay

The SRT Relay feature simplifies one-to-many or many-to-many streaming with the SRT protocol. It does so by letting Magewell and third-party SRT solutions connect via Magewell Cloud rather than directly to each other. Thus, it eliminates the need for public, static IP addresses at every endpoint. Bi-directional protocol conversion between SRT and RTMP also lets users take advantage of the benefits of SRT in their streaming workflows while providing compatibility with non-SRT hardware and software.

“Our solutions are often used in large-scale production and distribution workflows that span multiple rooms or locations,” says James Liu, VP of Engineering at Magewell. “The Magewell Cloud software makes it easier for integrators and users to configure and manage our hardware in these deployments. [Meanwhile,] its stream management capabilities simplify the use of SRT technology in multi-site and multi-protocol workflows.”

Magewell Cloud delivers as a Docker container and can be deployed on customers’ own private server or public cloud infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure. Magewell recommends Linux as the operating system for Magewell Cloud installations. However, it is also compatible with Windows and MacOS.

Additionally, Magewell channel partners may also offer optional, fee-based support services to assist customers with deploying the software or managing their devices.

If Microsoft is faced with any cloud capacity constraints in any region during the COVID-19 crisis, top priority will go to first responders, health and emergency management services, critical government infrastructure and keeping remote workers up and running.

In an Azure blog post, Microsoft said it has developed clear criteria for the priority of new cloud capacity.

Those on the front lines against the novel coronavirus and those shifting to a work-from-home model due to government-imposed restrictions will be given priority, the company said.

The company also highlighted the use of Microsoft Teams — the firm’s flagship collaboration app — and Dynamics 365 Customer Service and how it’s services are helping enterprises adapt to this new reality of remote work.

Microsoft is also considering adjusting free offers to ensure support of existing customers.

Here’s more from the Microsoft Azure COVID-19 blog:

As companies operationalize to address new and unique challenges, we have mobilized our global response plan to help customers stay up and running during this critical time. We are actively monitoring performance and usage trends 24/7 to ensure we are optimizing our services for customers worldwide, while accommodating new demand.

We are working closely with first responder organizations and critical government agencies to ensure we are prioritizing their unique needs and providing them our fullest support. We are also partnering with governments around the globe to ensure our local datacenters have on-site staffing and all functions are running properly.

In response to health authorities emphasizing the importance of social distancing, we are supporting many large-scale corporations, schools, and governments in the mobilization of remote workforces. Microsoft Teams is helping millions of people adapt to remote work.

Organizations have been using Dynamics 365 Customer Service to help contact center employees provide consistent, personalized support while working remotely. Ensuring government and organizational functions can continue while keeping safe distances is critical to our society today.

As demand continues to grow, if we are faced with any capacity constraints in any region during this time, we have established clear criteria for the priority of new cloud capacity.

Top priority will be going to first responders, health and emergency management services, critical government infrastructure organizational use, and ensuring remote workers stay up and running with the core functionality of Teams. We will also consider adjusting free offers, as necessary, to ensure support of existing customers.

Tech giants Microsoft, Cisco and Zoom are furthering their partnership to improve network connectivity to cloud-based applications and interoperability that enables Cisco’s Webex video devices and Zoom video conferencing users to connect to Microsoft Teams meeting services.

Cisco said Webex will introduce an interop solution that will be certified as a Microsoft Cloud Video Interop offering to allow Webex Room devices and SIP video conferencing devices to join Teams meeting with a reliable interop experience.

The companies said they’re working on a new approach that would allow a direct guest join capability from one another’s video conferencing device to their respective meeting service web app. In other words, someone would be able to join a Teams meeting from a Webex Room Device and join a Cisco Webex Meeting from a Microsoft Teams Room.

The latest generations of meeting room devices that can run on embedded web technologies will support the new capabilities, Cisco said. The solutions are expected to be available in early 2020.

Both companies have a large customer base using each company’s products.

“We are listening and are working together to build these bridges to provide the best user experiences with the tools desired to get the job done,” Cisco said in an announcement.

The companies also said they’re partnering on an initiative to develop new capabilities to allow IT to seamlessly connect branch offices to Microsoft Azure Virtual WAN directly using Cisco’s SD-WAN hosted in Azure.

Cisco said its CD-WAN will also integrate more deeply with Microsoft Office 365 and be infused with application insights to enable it to manage optimal network paths more effectively and improve user experience.

“As organizations modernize their network with software-defined WAN to support cloud-based digital transformation, Microsoft is excited to announce a deeper partnership with Cisco to integrate Cisco SD-WAN, Azure Virtual WAN and Office 365,” said Yousef Khalidi, the corporate vice president of Microsoft Azure Networking, in a statement.

Microsoft and Zoom also announced a similar integration which will allow Zoom Rooms to join Microsoft Teams meetings and vice versa, all without the purchase of additional licenses or third-party services.

“We believe in prioritizing the customer experience,” Zoom Chief Product Officer Oded Gal said it a statement. “By working with industry leaders such as Microsoft, Zoom is able to provide a simple meeting experience from any room or device and further deliver happiness to our customers and anyone else using Zoom solutions.”

Both partnerships will help eliminate the frustration companies often face when trying to interact with another company that’s using a different platform or service and the need to spend money on other programs.

Information security firm Trustwave has bolstered its threat monitoring, detection and response in Microsoft Azure has launched an advanced threat detection and response service for the cloud computing service.

Trustwave said in an announcement earlier this week that its Threat Detection and Response services for Azure integrates with Microsoft Azure Sentinel — a cloud-native security information and event management solution — and Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection.

Data from customers’ devices and applications are collected and fed to Trustwave security analysts who inspect for malware, rogue code, behavioral anomalies and other indicators of cyber attacks.

Using the Microsoft Security Graph application programming interface, the firm ingests only data needed for efficient threat protection and to comply with data privacy restrictions, Trustwave said.

Aside from around-the-clock monitoring, Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection clients also have access to an advanced option that immediately escalates a detected incident to a full-scale digital forensic investigation to eliminate threats from the network.

The service is administered through Trustwave’s cloud-native Fusion platform that unifies data from Azure, endpoints, networks and multi-cloud environments across an enterprise’s entire footprint with Trustwave’s data lake, threat intelligence and security specialists.

Trustwave said the integration brings three key benefits for Azure customers:

  • Full threat visibility and centralized control for businesses with diverse security vendor technologies and multi-cloud environments
  • Access to security expertise and global threat intelligence led by Trustwave SpiderLabs
  • Consulting for deployment and optimization of Microsoft’s Azure Sentinel and Defender Advanced Threat Protection

In a statement, Senior Vice President of Managed Security Services Chris Schueler said detecting and responding to threats in the expanded attack surface of cloud and hybrid environments is becoming increasingly challenging.

The integration with Microsoft, he said, layers powerful threat detection and response onto Azure and leverages security experts to respond accordingly.

Senior Director of Azure Security at Microsoft Scott Woodgate called Trustwave an innovative MSSP.

“Trustwave’s strong threat detection and response expertise paired with Microsoft’s cloud native tools will enable customers to build a more proactive answer to incident response,” he said.
