In this episode of My TechDecisions Podcast, host Jonathan Blackwood speaks with Tom Komola of Siemens Industry, Inc. Siemens is a global company that focuses on electrification, automation and digitalization, and is one of the world’s largest producers of energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies. Tom’s role includes working with various security leaders of Higher Education Institutions and Healthcare Facilities in order to develop a wide variety of solutions to enhance the security of their facilities using Siemens products.

I had Tom on the program to talk about campus safety technology from the perspective of an end user. Tom has extensive experience in campus safety technology on both sides of the equation, as a security and emergency management specialist at MIT and in his current role with Siemens. He understands how to commission campus safety technology as and end user and how to implement it as an installer.

So I asked Tom to join the podcast and give insight to our audience. We talk about what types of technology count as campus safety technology, what campus safety technology can do to help your organization, how to sell campus safety technology to those that determine budget, and more.

We also really focus in on how to write campus safety technology into a Request for Proposal (RFP). Tom is well versed in both writing and reviewing RFPs, and he gets into the nitty gritty of what to include and how to include it.

Ultimately, campus safety technology is going to prepare your campus for emergency. While Tom focuses on higher education and healthcare environments, any organization can use Tom’s insight to bolster their physical security portfolio.
