TechDecisions spoke with Kyle Greetham, Communications Manager at WolfVision USA about wha the company is bringing to InfoComm 2018.
TD: What can attendees expect to see at WolfVision’s booth this year an InfoComm 2018?
KG: Well, simply put, there is going to be a lot of new things on display this year! We’ve pulled out all the stops and will be bringing guests a full bevy of solutions to make collaboration and presentation simpler and more effective. For example, our CYNAP solution, as the industry’s first all-in-one AV/IT appliance, presents a revolutionary new approach to AV system design. It simplifies design, reduces costs, and improves system reliability by combining all of the components and functionality required for today’s working and learning spaces into a single, cloud-connected, network manageable solution. Then, the CYNAP CORE is making its US market introduction, and is perhaps the best performing wireless collaboration device in the product category, and the only solution to enable wireless A/V presentation up to 1080p/60fps video across all major platforms without requiring software, apps, dongles, or the need to pre-load video files.
Another big item this year is vSolution MATRIX, which presents a technological leap forward in networked-AV signal distribution, providing new functionality to the product category and a newly imagined user-experience that is brilliantly simple to install and really enjoyable to use. An important feature for all of these is our GUI 2.0 focus, which uses a heads-up display (HUD) style control interface for managing A/V signals and presents a bold new approach to managing presentations without a 3rd party control system. Then of course, there is the new VZ-8Neo+. WolfVision is known for its high-quality Visualizers and the 8neo+ is the first swivel-mount Visualizer in the industry to support up to 1080p/60fps video and live-image previewing.
TD: WolfVision’s new vSolution MATRIX targets learning environments. Is this solution mainly for the education space, or can other industries utilize it as well?
KG: In addition to active learning classrooms, vSolution MATRIX is also a fantastic solution for managing A/V signals in courtrooms and training rooms. Imagine if an attorney wanted to introduce a new piece of evidence into a trial – Matrix would allow the judge to see it first and determine if it is admissible before allowing it to be seen by the entire courtroom. It also has great potential for routing video signals around customer experience centers, or during guided campus tours as you can easily transfer your presentation from space to space. It’s these kinds of options alongside the simplicity factor that really makes vSolution MATRIX a powerful tool for any interactive environment.
TD: How does vSolution MATRIX work differently than traditional AV infrastructure?
KG: Whereas traditional AV infrastructure for matrixed video signal distribution either calls for a dedicated video matrix switcher (with transmitters and receivers) or a network switch with encoders or decoders, vSolution MATRIX eliminates the need for dedicated encoders and decoders by embedding the video transcoding functionality directly into the collaboration devices themselves. It also seamlessly embeds the control of the signal management into a revolutionarily simple new control interface.
TD: Why is it important that vSolution MATRIX connects without the need for encoders and decoders?
KG: Eliminating the need for encoders and decoders in networked AV system design has many exciting implications. For starters, networked-AV encoders and decoders add significant cost to A/V installation projects, and so removing them from the bill of materials greatly reduces the project cost for the customer. Also, you would have to configure each device and create macro commands to route video signals between them, which can also be a very time consuming process, especially if you’re also programming a 3rd-party control system to manage them. Removing them from the equation also drastically cuts down on installation time and accelerates deployment. In essence, it drastically simplifies things and lets you concentrate on other, more important tasks.
TD: vSolution MATRIX touts cost effectiveness and ease of use. Why are these aspects so important specifically for the education market?
KG: Many higher education institutions wish they could add more active learning spaces to their campus but they are restricted from doing so due to budget limitations. Leveraging vSolution MATRIX with WolfVision’s CYNAP and CYNAP CORE devices enables these institutions to stretch their budget and integrate 2-3 times more active learning classrooms per year than was previously possible. Greater ease-of-use is also helping campuses make sure these rooms are being used more effectively. Many times, active learning classrooms end up being treated like lecture halls because faculty members struggle with effectively moving and distributing content around these spaces. Simplifying the user-experience and adding new collaborative tools makes it easier for faculty to leverage the investment and enrich the teaching/learning experience with new, engaging tools.
