TechDecisions spoke with Karthik Arumugam, VP of Strategy and Business Development for Polycom about why the company has partnered with Zoom and what the new Zoom Connector will bring to the market.
TD: How did Polycom and Zoom come to form a partnership for this product?
KA: Polycom has always been known for open and interoperable solutions and we have a long history of partnerships that create value for customers. Polycom’s strategy is to deliver solutions across a growing ecosystem of players to ensure that customers with any video infrastructure/service can attach Polycom endpoints for an enterprise-grade video experience. Zoom has a lot of momentum and marketshare in the VaaS space, and many customers have asked for the Polycom experience in the room with the Zoom service.
TD: What strengths does Zoom bring to this partnership?
Zoom has a strong VaaS solution that is being widely adopted by mid-market organizations as well as some enterprises.
KA: What strengths does Polycom bring to this partnership?
Polycom’s best-in-class solutions enrich any collaboration experience in a conference room. Polycom devices now allow Zoom customers to have enterprise-grade experiences in any size conference room.
TD: Tell me about the Zoom Connector? How will it help end users moving forward?
KA: The connector Zoom has created for the Polycom partnership has key “ease of use” related enhancements both for the end user as well as the admin. The Zoom Admin Portal will allow for easy configuration of the Polycom endpoints for the one-tap join experience for the end users, and the one-tap experience allows for users for a very easy join experience based on whatever calendaring tool they are using (Outlook, Google Calendar, and iCal).
TD: Do Polycom and Zoom have plans for additional partnership opportunities moving forward?
KA: We see great potential to expand beyond the initial integration work across more solutions over time.
