IP security wasn’t always revered — in fact, it was a topic of suspect by many A/V professionals only a short few years ago. But with advances in encryption and other cybersecurity measures, things like IP-based monitoring systems started cropping up all over the place. But Swedish-founded company Axis Communications says it was the first to make the switch from “analog” to “digital” security.
Chris Wildfoerster, business development manager, audio solutions, says the company’s history of innovation in IP security will be on display at the company’s InfoComm 2019 booth.
Importance of Audio to Security
You may be used to installers telling you how important audio is to UC & collaboration. While they aren’t wrong, Wildfoerster stresses that it is an equally important element of security.
“When you look at a surveillance system, they record events in time and make people feel safer. But with audio, you can actually prevent a situation from occurring just by sending a message or messages through the speakers,” he says.
“Telling people, ‘hey, step away from that fence’ before they decide to do it: that can save money and time and resources.”
Another example: say there’s a fight breaking out in a school hallway. Audio warnings can be sent out directly towards those involved as soon as the incident is spotted on security cameras.
“The goal is to de-escalate and prevent any further damage or incidents, and audio is really useful for that,” he says.
