Happy Thanksgiving from TechDecisions! Today is a time to reflect on the year past, take stock of the good things in our lives, and give thanks for the blessings that we have been given.
It’s easy to forget to be thankful for the technology we successfully implement. When Bob from the Sales Department downloaded a virus that he thought was a link to a video of a cat playing the piano, and you’re working late to fix his error, daydreaming about strangling him with his own Ethernet cable, it’s easy to lose sight of things. Tough to stay thankful when your network unexpectedly goes down and you need to troubleshoot every box in the seven racks stuffed in a closet you call the server room. When Cindy calls you down to the conference room because her computer won’t connect to the presentation display, you’ll be less thankful than vengeful when you find that the problem is that she didn’t plug the HDMI cable into the back of her laptop.
Today isn’t about the weekly struggles of the technology decision maker, though. Today is a day to relax, freed from the idiocy of your coworkers and the undependability of your networking equipment. Today is a day to remember the good things in your life.
While you’re busy spending time with friends and family, eating homemade turkey, stuffing, corn, green beans, mac and cheese, and pies and cookies for dessert, let TechDecisions remind you that, while much of a tech manager’s life can be difficult, there is much to be thankful for as well.
There’s nothing like showing a clear return on your technology investment to make the higher ups take notice.
