Those of you who routinely come home from work with a sore back from having to lift heavy things and push your body past physical limits may be in luck, according to Venture Beat. LG has developed an exoskeleton that may make you feel like a superhero, its intended use is rather practical, making it easier and less painful for people to get that manual labor done at work without coming home feeling like they’re recovering from a CrossFit session.
The LG CLOi SuitBot, which will be featured at the upcoming IFA conference in Berlin, is designed to “support and enhance a user’s legs to allow for more mobility and lower limb strength.” LG intends to implement the suit at manufacturing and logistics worksites, where manual labor takes up a significant portion of an employee’s time and energy. The devices are able to connect with each other as well as other LG devices, so these sites can either create a productive network of stronger and healthier employees or attempt to mastermind a cyborg world takeover.
But in all serious, even though these exoskeletons seem like something that Black Mirror would warn us about, they could change the lives of a lot of employees. With a robot assisting them in the more physically challenging parts of their job, they’ll have more energy to spend on the more cerebral elements of their job.
So far, there is no word on how much these suits are going to cost, but they are the result of LG’s recent investment in SG Robotics.
“A comfortable fit and naturally rotating joints allow the CLOi SuitBot to move in a more relaxed and natural way to enhance the lower body while walking, standing, or working,” LG said in a press release. “Its sandal-type shoes and automatic adjustment feature allow the wearer to get in and out of the suit more easily, differentiating LG CLOi SuitBot from many other exoskeletons.”
