According to an article by edcetera.rafter.com, up to 90 percent of college students “view Wi-Fi as essential to their educational success.”
In some cases, students won’t consider attending a college that doesn’t offer Wi-Fi.
The article, which quotes OnlineColleges.com, says that Wi-Fi networks are one of the tactics college have to use in order to attract and retain students; Wi-Fi upgrades and additions are growing the quickest in the higher education realm, and colleges will be “the No. 1 customer for these networks in the coming decade.”
It also says that American colleges feel the pressure to compete more heavily because academic communities in other countries have “access to more advanced networks.” Because of this, American colleges will lose its dominance in international research, which can give a serious hit to the U.S. economy.
Based on the article and the infographic beneath it, it seems that the solution to this is a no-brainer: college should think about hopping on the Wi-Fi train, if they haven’t already.
Aside from keeping U.S. economics up and growing, it keeps current and prospective students happy.
According to the infographic by OnlineColleges.com, students need Wi-Fi because:
• It makes college easier
• It helps improve academic performance
• It increases their productivity
• They use it to decide where they will go, such as a bookstore or coffee shop
• They can download class materials more quickly
