Building on its air purification technology and applying it to the COVID-19 pandemic, LG is releasing a new air purifying mask that the company says supplies fresh, clean air both indoors and outside.
In a Thursday press release, LG said the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier will be debuted at IFA 2020. The company says the mask is a new category of wearable air purifier technology that brings a new level of portable protection.
Although production seems to have caught up, masks were in short order early in the coronavirus pandemic. Even now, not all masks are up to par and provide enough protection.
The mask includes two H13 HEPA filters, similar to filters used in LG’s air purifier products for the home.

The mask’s filters, dual fans, respiratory sensor allow users to take in clean, filtered air while the sensor detects the cycle and volume of the user’s breath. The fans are automatically adjusted to sync up with the user’s breathing patterns.
According to LG, the mask was designed based on extensive facial shape analysis and prevent air leakage around the nose and chin. The 820mAh battery offers up to eight hours of operation in low mode and two hours on high.
“The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier is an exciting addition to our growing lineup of products designed to deliver meaningful health and hygiene benefits,” said Dan Song, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “At a time when consumers are seeking ways to make life safer and more convenient, it’s important that we’re able to offer solutions that add measureable value.”
The mask also comes with a case equipped with germ-killing UV-LED lights. The case also sends notifications to the LG ThinQ app when the filters need to be replaced.
