Trend #1: Ransomware
Ransomware remains a top threat to every organization. While some focused on traditional encryption, 2021 also marked the rise of additional tactics— double extortion, an affiliate model and new ransomware groups.
In 2021, ransomware groups such as Egregor, Sodinokibi/REvil, BlackMatter, and Doppelpaymer suddenly disappeared; however, new ransomware families sharing close similarities emerged (i.e. BlackByte, Grief, Hive, Yanluowang, Vice Society, and CryptoLocker/Phoenix Locker).
