The age of traditional teaching methods are in the past now. We do not perceive the teaching-learning process as a one way street anymore. On the contrary, it is proven that the knowledge is acquired the best when there is an interaction between the teacher and the students.
In order to make that interaction more effective and enhance the process of knowledge acquisition, we use technology.
However, the thing with technology is that it is rapidly changing and the teachers need to constantly adapt to new processes.
So how is technology already in use and how is it going to be used in future? Let’s take a look.
There are no more traditional textbooks
Textbooks are not interesting anymore because we have interactive applications now which enable the students to acquire knowledge much faster. The reason why they work much better is simple – focus.
Interactive and captivating apps will make the student focus more on the current topic and turn on their brain in the process of solving the problem offered by the app.
Apart from apps, there are interactive games as well as millions of hours of educative videos that can all be used as a part of teaching process and replace textbooks.
Teaching is not conducted in the classroom anymore
The sole space that we use in order to make a successful transfer of knowledge is now expanded from classroom to worldwide. Thanks to the world wide web that all of us have been using for more than 25 years now, we have managed to take the communication through the distance on the next level.
The advantages of Information and Communication Technologies are endless. The Internet throughout the world is now much faster and better connection can be established. Therefore, students who are not physically able to attend can follow the class via Skype.
One more creative way to use Skype is to call many professionals from the class that you are teaching and have them present something on the big screen to the students.
Blackboards are big computers
The most concrete way that shows how technology is slowly becoming a part of every part of the class is the blackboard. Although still available in just a few schools, interactive blackboards are threatening to take over the world.
What they can do is everything that a computer can do – play videos, play flash animations, presentations, etc. Apart from all of the new stuff, they can still be written on with either a special marker or with a finger – because they are touchscreen.
This way you can turn your classroom into a playground of a sort, where students can play games on the board, watch YouTube videos and show their homework that they have previously submitted to the cloud.
Homework is more interactive
Everybody hates homework when there is a lot of assignment to be done, especially when it comes to writing tasks. But there is one secret word that we all know and we can use it and thank technology for that – research.
The homework nowadays is not just repeating what was done in the class but an active acquisition of new knowledge on the topic by actively researching the internet.
Apart from the research, homework can also have different submission procedures because not all homework has to be brought in the class. On the other hand, homework can be e-mailed, uploaded to a cloud server, etc.
Teachers get to express more creativity
The last thing incorporates all the previous things mentioned here into one big creative process that every teacher should go through in order to convey the knowledge in the best manner.
This also means that the teacher should actively be learning about all the new pieces of technology that are invented and try to use them in their classroom. The problem may arise with older teachers who feel that they are running behind with technological advancements, but that can be solved by someone younger teaching them how to use it.
In other words, a teacher nowadays must take on a role of a coder, an IT person, a researcher and to be a technology enthusiast in order to be able to make the classroom an unforgettable experience for the students.
To sum up, teaching methods are not constant and whenever something new is invented, teachers should try to use it for the advancement of knowledge transfer.
Some of the aspects of traditional classroom are gone and things such as applications, computers, interactive blackboards and the Internet are actively used in teaching. It is up to the teacher to come up with the most efficient way to combine these and make the students not only learn everything but enjoy the interactive process of teaching as well.
