LG Business Solutions USA showcased its full line of MAGNIT DVLED (direct-view light emitting diode) displays at InfoComm 2023. Per the company, these displays enable large, cutting-edge screens to be deployed in various settings. These include corporate settings, on video production sets, as digital art displays and even for luxury residential applications.

LG’s five distinct LG MAGNIT models — led by a new 22-and-a-half-foot Micro LED display —  demonstrate the exceptional color, clarity, contrast and “wow factor” offered by DVLED technologies, the company says.

MAGNIT Family of DVLED Displays

“The MAGNIT family of DVLED displays offers integrators and clients some of the most striking, impactful digital screens on the market today,” remarks David Bacher, head of marketing for LG Business Solutions USA. “Whether it’s forming an extended reality backdrop on a professional video production set or displaying messaging or ads in a retail store or corporate lobby, LG’s MAGNIT technology delivers incredible experiences with a premium feel.”

Unveiled for the first time in the U.S. is the 272-inch LG MAGNIT 8K Micro LED Display (Model LSAB007), says LG. This display highlights how the tiny pixel pitch makes it an ideal solution for a variety of commercial use cases including retail, hospitality and corporate environments showing video or digital art content. This new Micro LED display offers a 0.78mm pixel pitch with LG’s Deep Black Technology and an impressive 150,000:1 contrast ratio to deliver stunning images with vivid colors, breathtaking contrast and ultra-fine detail.

Additional Features

The LSAB007’s Alpha 9 Intelligent Processor, integrated ambient light sensor, support for HDR10 and HDR10 Pro and wide 160-degree horizontal- and vertical-viewing angles enhance user experiences in any seating arrangement. Several layers of coated film help protect the LEDs from water drops, dust and physical impact.

Next is the MAGNIT Studio Series with Megapixel VR’s Helios controller, says LG. Model LBAG015 is a tile-based, 1.5mm pixel-pitch DVLED solution specially designed for on-camera use in professional production studios. The ability to present seamless, convincing video that can be used on camera without distortion is already empowering production studios to build extended reality and virtual reality stages where filming backdrops can be digitally designed and displayed in real time while recording.

Improved Technology

The curveable, high-contrast LBAG series displays offer actors and on-screen talent a more immersive experience than post-production or green screen solutions, while also enabling direct on-screen presentation capabilities for information or news programs. Controls including V-Sync, phase shift, color and gamma adjustment, customizable 3D-LUT and manual HDR adjustment ensure optimal operation in any environment.

To ensure every client can find a solution optimized for their needs, LG says it offers the same display technology and quality in the MAGNIT LBAF model. This also features LG’s powerful webOS controller.

Also featured at InfoComm is a new 163-inch model of the MAGNIT LSAQ009 series designed with a remote, off-board power supply unit (PSU) that greatly simplifies PSU replacement and emergency maintenance for vital 24/7 control room, war room and broadcast environments where display access is limited.

Another MAGNIT MicroLED display (model LSAB007) previews how the technology can be deployed for high-end residential installations. According to the company, the display comes with even greater definition and clarity now possible through the just-released residential LSAL006 series that offers LG’s smallest LED pixel pitch.

Samsung Electronics showcased three new models of its state-of-the-art display technology, The Wall, at ISE 2022 in Barcelona. According to the N.J.-based company, the models represent the future of Micro LED technology.

“Micro LED technology is set to define the future of display innovation. From the luxury industry to hospitality and travel, the potential of Micro LED is endless in enabling businesses to achieve more,” states Hyesung Ha, EVP of visual display business at Samsung Electronics. “ISE is the largest show of its kind in the world and we are excited to unveil our expanded lineup of The Wall. The next-generation technology of The Wall will deliver benefits beyond expectations, transforming any business and unlocking new opportunities.”

Slimmest Ever Pixel Pitch

At ISE this year, Samsung unveiled its 2022 model of The Wall (Model name: IWB). This is an innovative modular Micro LED display that delivers immersive viewing experiences in a high-resolution, large screen format. The IWB will be available in 0.63 mm and 0.94 mm pixel pitches. Per a statement, the 0.63 is the slimmest ever pixel pitch in The Wall lineup. The new display is now available to preorder globally.

The micro pitch feature of the IWB demonstrates Samsung’s most detailed picture and dynamic range expansion with the screen’s 120Hz frame rate, HDR10/10+ and LED HDR.

Following installation, The Wall provides a variety of screen sizes. It can accommodate 4K movies for 110-inch and up to 8K quality for 220-inch to meet any consumer or business needs. This resolution capability is enhanced by the powerful Micro AI (Artificial Intelligence) Processor. According to Samsung, this analyzes every second of content instantly and optimizes picture quality while removing noise.

Improved Cabinet Size

The overall size of the cabinets has also increased, allowing businesses and consumers to install only four cabinets to configure the UHD screen. As a result, it enables faster and more cost-efficient operation. The display’s improved cabinet also strengthens the large, high-resolution screens and improves the mechanical quality for immersive viewing. At the same time, it enhances seam adjustment. In fact, the installation time has reduced thereby offering significant benefits compared to conventional LED signage.

The Wall also features the latest technology. Firstly, with Multi View, it enables simultaneous multi-source playback from up to four sources all on one screen, without any additional splitter required for dynamic content display. Secondly, the Black Seal Technology built into the display creates a seamless canvas for purer black levels. There is also an ultra-low reflective film to minimize external light reflection. Plus, with 20-bit processing, The Wall delivers outstanding image quality and a smooth viewing experience, with 2,000 nits providing clearer images.

The Wall All-in-One: Innovative and Convenient Installation

Also unveiled in Barcelona this year, is The Wall All-in-One (Model name: IAB) available in three different models. These include the 4K 146-inch, 2K 146-inch and 2K 110-inch. This next generation display brings innovation to the installation, not just the viewing experience, says Samsung. The standard resolution of The Wall All-in-One is a 16:9 form factor. The product, which is only sold by screen, will be available globally following ISE 2022.

The most innovative feature is the convenient installation that features a pre-adjusted seam and a ‘Pre-Assembled Frame Kit.’ This kit makes the whole process simple as a consumer TV. It also includes the 16:9 form factor display’s internalized deco bezel and an embedded media player S-box. Thus, it lowers the total cost of ownership.

The Wall All-in-One offers a sleek design with display thinness of just 49mm, which is ultimately 59mm in total installation when measured from wall to screen. This slim, bezel-less infinity design provides a direct input connection on the screen without a separate device. In other words, it creates a clean and convenient setup, says the company.

Additionally, together with 20-bit processing, Black Seal technology and Micro AI Processor, users can install two 4K 146-inch screens side by side. This then creates a 32:9 form factor model with a detachable feature.

From EV Charging Station to Hybrid Classroom

American Dream, a three-million-square-foot retail and entertainment complex, utilized SDVoE technology along with NETGEAR and SNA Displays products to create an immersive entertainment experience.

Nestled outside of New York City, the complex features an array of attractions, including the Nickelodeon Universe theme park, Big Snow American Dream ski slopes, and the DreamWorks Water Park.

Addressing the Challenges

Designed and constructed to be a destination mall, American Dream aspired to take entertainment, dining, and retail to a new level, built on a foundation of interactive and immersive audio and video.

“The video display on the grand staircase had to look fantastic. It’s a ‘wow’ factor for the complex,” says Pierre Sicard, SDVoE Alliance member development representative.

“The challenge was taking the video signal and transporting it throughout the complex while preserving the image quality. Transporting video is simple nowadays but preserving the quality of the image can be quite challenging. Oftentimes, it means sacrificing something in a video display, which typically means compressing the video to deliver it more efficiently, but at the expense of below average image quality,” added Sicard.

Another concern was the latency in video distribution. According to Sicard, there are many variants in AV-over-IP technology, but they often suffer from latency concerns. For example, if a live event is being displayed, choppy images are unacceptable. The quality must be pristine, which requires an extremely low-latency video solution.

Installing the SDVoE Technology

SDVoE technology, as implemented through the NETGEAR, Aurora Multimedia and SNA Display products, allowed for full high-quality 4K60P and 4:4:4 video with near-zero latency across all displays throughout the facility — from impressive LED walls to hundreds of digital signage kiosks — to create an immersive entertainment experience.

The high bandwidth offered by SDVoE technology was integral in supporting over 600 endpoints, and therefore was a key component in providing a seamless solution.

“SDVoE’s technology eliminates the need for compromise. It allows the transport of high-quality images anywhere within a complex or facility with virtually zero latency, and not a lot of technologies can effectively and successfully do that,” continued Sicard.

The company added that NETGEAR and Aurora Multimedia powered 40,000 square feet of display technology.

According to SDVoE, SNA Displays also supplied all LED displays, including the Grand Staircase, which is 12 feet tall and 107 feet long (approximately the size of two and a half highway billboards) and a traffic-facing exterior corner-wrap display measuring 24 feet high by 165 feet long.

NETGEAR’s M4500 Series was selected to facilitate and power the connectivity between Aurora Multimedia endpoints and the video displays.

Per John Henkel, professional AV product marketing manager at NETGEAR, the M4500 Series enables instant multicast functionality for AV-over-IP technology.

“NETGEAR is the backbone for connectivity at American Dream,” noted Henkel. “Featuring high-capacity for AV-over-IP, the M4500 Series supports up to 640 SDVoE endpoints. It creates a cost-effective solution for 100 gigabit aggregation and 10 gigabit access layers, an integral technology component throughout the complex.”

Sicard also highlighted, “NETGEAR has a long-standing, reliable history in the professional AV market. Its technology has always been cutting-edge and innovative, but it provides a unique value-add because of its investment in pro AV and supporting these installations. NETGEAR emphasizes customer and technical support, which is integral in any project, but certainly in a project of this size.”

Role of Aurora Multimedia

Aurora Multimedia played a critical role in transporting video throughout the complex. Aurora Multimedia’s IPX-TC3-PRO, a 4K2K transceiver with zero compression and latency, was essential to the installation,

“Aurora’s IPX-TC3-PRO is a key solution for the American Dream project,” said Paul Harris, CEO at Aurora Multimedia. “It allows 4K60 4:4:4 content to be distributed throughout the entire complex to the kiosks and LED walls. It even handles the USB and 1G Ethernet over the same fiber cable to each location making the IPX Series the ultimate AV IP product on the market today.”

Dubai International (DXB) in the United Arab Emirates is the world’s busiest airport for international passenger traffic, handling more than 88 million passengers a year

Dubai Airport’s new Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) houses several teams managing airport operations 24/7.

The Tech Decision

Dubai audio-visual integrator Aesthetix was appointed to design and integrate a state-of-the-art audio-visual solution for the new AOCC control room.

Aesthetix Technologies is a leading provider of audio-visual automation solutions to integrate audio, video, lighting, display equipment and system controls for auditoriums, education, training, boardrooms, retail stores, hotels, smart homes, and much more.

The objective was to provide a user-friendly, flexible airport video wall solution for operators to view live visuals and data for monitoring and collaborative decision making.

The Solution

Aesthetix selected RGB Spectrum’s MediaWall V 4K display processor to power the AOCC’s massive 55 screen video wall. The MediaWall V processor was chosen for its exceptional image quality, real-time performance and embedded architecture, which reduces the vulnerabilities of hacking and tampering of PC-based processors.

The AOCC MediaWall-based video wall centralizes an extensive volume of visuals and data to enhance situational awareness.

Operators can collaboratively view information for daily management and planning.

The MediaWall V processor receives input from surveillance cameras, and computer system displays covering dynamic flight information, passenger and baggage status, check-in and boarding information, weather, access control and other data.

The MediaWall V processor consolidates these diverse sources and displays them in windows of any size, anywhere on the video wall array.

The processor’s advanced features include overlapping images, window borders and titles, and pan and zoom, allowing an operator to view items of particular interest.

The Impact

The processor is controlled by RGB Spectrum’s VIEW Controller which simplifies the airport video wall operation.

The VIEW Controller’s intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) provides easy “drag and drop” selection and routing of any source. Live thumbnails of all sources provide visual aids for managing workflow.

Sources can even be previewed prior to routing. Operators can choose from up to 60 preset window layouts.
