Windows 11 22H2
Microsoft is reportedly working on a major feature update for Windows 11, and it is expected to come out next month, reports Windows Central, among other outlets.
The release is currently being tested by participants in the company’s Windows Insider program, and will be released this fall as a free update for all Windows 11 users.
Features reportedly planned for the release include app folders in Start menu, Focus Assist integration with Notification Center, voice accessibility features, new live captions features, new gestures, a new Task Manager app, a deeper integration between OneDrive and File Explorer and other user interface upgrades.
Microsoft disrupts Russian threat actor
Microsoft says its Threat Intelligence Center, along with researchers from Google and Proofpoint, has taken action to disrupt campaigns launched by SEABOGIUM, an alleged Russia-based threat actor that appears to be aligned with the country’s national interests.
The group’s activities include persistent phishing and credential theft attacks, data theft and leaking and more. Some of the activity was carried out using Microsoft services, including OneDrive. Microsoft disabled those accounts, and has implemented Defender detections against the phishing domains.
New Dell XPS models, webcam
Dell is launching two new XPS models, the XPS 13 Plus Developer’s Edition with Ubuntu 22.04 and the XPS 13 2-in-1, as well as a new Dell Pro Webcam.
The XPS Plus developer’s edition with Ubuntu 22.04 is hailed as the first OEM PC to be certified for Ubuntu 22.04, and can come pre-installed with 22.04 LTS.
The XPS 13 2-in-1 is a new form factor for the XPS, a tablet-style device that comes with the XPS Folio for a complete laptop experience.
The Dell Pro Webcam is a 2K QHD webcam with advanced signal processing with a built-in noise reducing microphone.
Google fends off 46 million RPS DDoS attack
Google has reportedly fended off the largest HTTPS DDoS attack ever recorded and prevented attackers from taking down a customer’s internet services hosted over Google Cloud.
PCMag reports that the June 1 attack peaked at 46 million requests per second using HTTPS-based requests, the largest Layer 7 DDoS reported to date, the outlet says, citing Google product managers and researchers.
The attack was about 76% more powerful than the 26 million RPS attack against Cloudflare that same month, which was the up to that point the largest ever attack.
Use Google Docs to Assign Checklist Items
Google Workspace users can now use Docs to assign a checklist item to themselves or a colleague that will show up in the assignee’s Task list, according to an announcement on the company’s Workspace Updates blog.
Edits made to an assigned item in Tasks—such as a title change, due date or completion stats—will appear in the Doc, and vice versa. The feature is being rolled out over the next few weeks.
