For Central Arizona College‘s classrooms, BYOD and collaboration are key.
So when the college was charged to craft collaborative rooms for students to bring their own devices while leaving instructors’ teaching undisturbed, it was more than ready to step up to the plate.
Central Arizona College’s mini but mighty integration staff created rooms with mobile, flexible furniture and a system equipped with Crestron gear for students and instructors to put their heads together in the classroom.
The install included:
Crestron AirMedia: allows students to use iPads, PCs, Macs, IOS products and other devices for collaborative learning.
Crestron Fusion RoomView: allows classroom instructors to schedule maintenance remotely and access support to monitor the system.
Flexible furniture: includes mobile chairs, pull-apart tables and mobile lecterns to reconfigure the room per students’ collaborative needs.
Jean Halloran, Coordinator of IT Support at Central Arizona College says the technology and furniture was initially installed on the college’s newer campus, but was then implemented it into the college’s library study rooms.
She says installing it this way helped students become familiar with the technology fast.
“It enables the students to communicate and share with their class in a way that they’re used to, with their phones, tablets, and laptops,” Halloran says. “How they communicate outside the classroom is now how they’re able to communicate within.”
Halloran also says that the new rooms enable instructors to keep teaching without having to stress about learning new technology.
