As education continues to go digital—and increasingly mobile—tech managers and IT administrators are faced with the difficult task of managing a growing number of wireless devices on their network. At any given time, staff and students are likely to have a laptop, tablet and/or smartphone on hand. I know teachers who carry all three to work everyday. It’s necessary then that schools have a way of keeping track of and of managing the devices on their network.
A mobile device management (MDM) solution is a software tool that allows IT administrators to do just that. It provides a means to set permissions, restrict access, push out applications and digital content and update software from a single management console. In many cases, your MDM can even alert you if students are attempting to access or circumvent set restrictions. If your school is implementing mobile learning, then an MDM solution can prove to be a life saver for technology managers charged with providing a semblance of control over the storm of tablets, laptops and smartphones competing for access to the network.
