Never heard of the Internet of Things (IoT) until recently? You’re not alone. But it’s time to take notice, as it’s a way of making our technology smarter and our processes more efficient. The Internet of Things has the potential to disrupt so many industries.
First, let’s get some perspective. In 1990, there were only 1990 desktop computers connected to the internet. Hard to believe nowadays. By 2020, as the infographic explains, there will be 13 billion things connected to the internet in our home. This isn’t just computers – it’s TVs, security cameras, kettles and other things we use daily. And that’s just our homes, before the millions of things in our cars, wearable technology and technology deployed by cities or hospitals.
This means a lot for us. It’s going to make our lives a heck of a lot easier. Your fridge could order milk before you run out. Your phone will notify you as soon as your next prescription is available. The traffic lights on your way to work could adjust to the flow of traffic.
The Internet of Things could truly revolutionise how we live. Find out more in this great infographic. What are you most looking forward to?
