Ellucian, the provider of software and services built for higher education, announces Arkansas State University (ASU) has selected Ellucian Banner as its unified, cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution.
As part of a statewide effort to align higher education institutions, the ASU System will implement Banner to achieve a shared, scalable cloud platform designed to increase collaboration, combine resources, and support future growth among the system’s schools.
Arkansas State University Jonesboro, a long-time Ellucian Banner customer, will be the first to transition to the managed cloud model in early 2020.
Following that implementation, five community colleges including ASU Beebe, ASU Mid South, ASU Mountain Home, ASU Newport, and ASU Three Rivers (formerly College of the Ouachitas) will join the shared technology platform.
The enterprise resource planning solution
This proven technology platform model leverages cloud services. According to the manufacturer, it is “a cost-effective means of empowering additional higher education institutions to promote student success.”
Using Banner, the system’s schools will form a technology ecosystem, pooling resources and expertise that will drive equity and innovation, support data-driven decision making, and improve the overall user experience for students, staff and administrators, the company says.
As the ASU System grows and scales each member will benefit from enhanced student services, supplemental staff and support, greater operational agility, and more comprehensive workforce development, all while retaining local autonomy and decision making.
“In the coming years, we believe the ASU system will continue to see growth, both in the number of institutions and students we serve,” said ASU System President Chuck Welch.
“We want to eliminate redundancy and expand our collective resources by enabling shared technology services that provide value to our community. With this Ellucian partnership, we’re able to give schools of every size the same access to high-caliber technology at scale and the resources of an advanced cloud provider.”

“We’re thrilled that the longtime success of ASU Jonesboro has expanded into a statewide effort that will benefit a growing list of institutions,” said Ellucian President and CEO Laura Ipsen.
“This type of shared, managed technology model for higher education is something only Ellucian can deliver. We look forward to seeing the innovation unleashed by ASU System schools as their technology evolves in the cloud.”
