Microsoft Teams Premium, a more expensive and feature-rich version of the company’s flagship conferencing and collaboration app, will be generally available early next month, according to the company.
In a document, Microsoft says general availability of Teams Premium is scheduled for early February 2023. According to Microsoft, the expected price for Teams Premium is $10 per user per as an add-on to a Microsoft 365 subscription. Official pricing will be shared once Teams Premium hits general availability in February.
With the general release of Teams Premium, some Teams features will move from Teams licenses to Teams Premium licenses, so organizations currently using those features will have to upgrade to Teams Premium. According to Microsoft, those features moving to Teams Premium include:
- Live translated captions.
- Timeline markers in Teams meeting recordings for when a user left or joined meetings.
- Custom organization Together mode scenes.
- Virtual Appointments: SMS notifications.
- Virtual Appointments: Organizational analytics in the Teams admin center.
- Virtual Appointments: Scheduled queue view.
There will be a 30-day grace period for admins to purchase Teams Premium before users lose those features.
First announced during its annual Ignite conference in October, Microsoft began making Teams Premium broadly for preview as a limited trial for commercial customers. The advanced version of Teams includes features such as intelligent recap, live translations, meeting guides, advanced meeting security, virtual appointments and more.
In addition, Microsoft says Teams Premium will allow organizations to extend their brand and culture with company branding, backgrounds and together mode scenes. The offering also includes new webinar experiences that feature advanced capabilities to streamline event workflows with registration waitlist and manual approval, virtual green rooms for presenters, and attendee management tools.
Security features in Teams Premium include watermark, end-to-end encryption for meetings, sensitively labels for meetings with prevent copy/paste of meeting chat, and control over who can record meetings.
Although offered in Teams Premium, some features will have to be enabled by both IT admins and by users while setting up a meeting. For example, IT admins can enable end-to-end encryption for users, groups or tenant in the Teams Admin Center. However, the enhanced encryption will be off by default for users when they schedule a teams meeting, and they will need to turn it on manually as a meeting option.
