VIZIONefx LLC of Baldwinsville, N.Y., a small digital communications integration firm, recently worked on upgrading the Syracuse, N.Y.-based LeMoyne College campus.
In the first two phases of a three-part job that wrapped up last summer when installer VIZIONefx equipped the campus with a digital signage media player that will broadcast a campus-wide TV station, CAMPUSefx, through X2O’s Xpresenter platform, the company used X2O Media vClips to update the college’s Athletics Hall of Fame with an interactive HD video kiosk and Xpresenter Xe Video Poster in four digital menu boards at the on-campus café, the Dolphin Den.
“LeMoyne is one of the first colleges of its size to incorporate an interactive touch screen as part of its athletics department, and the response has been nothing short of phenomenal,” says Shaun Black, LeMoyne’s acting director of information technology. “The entire college has been completely engaged by the menu boards, which have provided tremendous flexibility to our dining services staff, and everyone is excited about our plans for future expansion.”
VIZIONefx got wind of LeMoyne’s plans because one of the three partners is an alum, who played baseball for the Dolphins. They’re slated to install a a 65” touch screen application in the new VIP lounge of Farleigh Dickinson University’s athletic center and are on the short list of contenders at Drexel University, says president Matt Oswalt, who credits the “six degrees of separation” phenomenon on college campuses for the company’s early success in landing work in this market.
Easy As One, Two, Three
The Hall of Fame touch-screen display, which replaced an ever-more-crowded collection of caricatures of Dolphin legends, includes music and pictures that tell the story of the best the school has had to offer on the field, while engaging visitors and showcasing team and individual feats. The boards can also be used for season wrap-ups and breaking sports news that affects LeMoyne students. That work, at the entrance to Henninger Athletic Center, was launched in August and wrapped up in the fall.
Future content will include video messages from coaches, administrators, and the president of Le Moyne College.
In November, part two of VIZIONefx’s work began with the installation of four 42-inch digital menu boards in the Dolphin Den. The menu boards eliminate paper menus by displaying current offerings and pricing for the café’s four distinct service stations. Menus can be scheduled in advance and updated as necessary.
In addition, the displays provide a way to keep the LeMoyne College community informed as they dine by displaying current college news and event updates. VIZIONefx remotely manages the boards, which LeMoyne officials generally change once or twice a month, usually with the addition of special menu items named after professors or other college staff.
